Wedding anniversaries

Frankly, I'm appalled that de Beers promotes the notion that a 1st anniversary gift should be renting out an entire movie theatre and giving a sizable three-diamond ring. Whatever happened to paper? Hey you only get silver at 25 and have to put in 50 years to get gold according to the creators of that list that was popular in the 50s and 60s. However, these folks are not just inviting you to a little picnic - they are throwing a party and 75 people is not cheap. I don't think you have to match the wedding gift. You might want to play on the "paper" theme and give some classy personalised stationery. Or you can go back to Tiffany and get one of their little sentimental gifts - small glass heart paperweight with their initials and first anniversary with the date. They liked Tiffany the first round - some people just love those turquoise boxes... This site seems to have some less-expensive anniversary gift ideas worth taking a look. The personalized variety look especially interesting.
